Bangladesh’s net FDI rose 12.78% year on year to USD 346.94 million in April–June 2026, driven largely by reinvested earnings.

As per the latest FDI statistics released by Bangladesh Bank:

  • Reinvested earnings increased 55.08% year on year to USD 260.91 million, reflecting continued profitability and reinvestment by existing foreign investors.

  • Net equity investment stood at USD 77.42 million, down 4.77% year on year, amid mounting pressure on global investment from geopolitical uncertainty, the Middle East conflict and rising energy costs.

  • Net intra-company lending declined 85.17% to USD 8.61 million, despite gross inflows of USD 333.80 million, reflecting substantial repayments of existing obligations.

Invest Bangladesh’s mandate covers investment facilitation across the country and the development of economic zones. In April–June 2026, net FDI in the non-EPZ category increased 20.75% year on year to USD 280.88 million. Economic-zone net FDI stood at USD 4.51 million, down 25.33% year on year but up significantly from USD 0.42 million in the preceding quarter.

Nahian Rahman Rochi, Member (Investment Development), Invest Bangladesh, said:

“The year-on-year growth in overall FDI is encouraging, particularly against a backdrop of continued global economic uncertainty, geopolitical tensions and higher energy costs. Fresh equity investment remains challenging as investors globally continue to take a cautious approach. At the same time, the strong growth in reinvested earnings is an important positive signal as it demonstrates confidence among existing investors in the long-term prospects of their operations and can support further expansion, employment and productive capacity. Our focus remains on improving the fundamentals of the investment climate to attract stronger and more sustainable FDI over time. Recent investment announcements by leading international companies are encouraging, and we continue to work actively on our USD 1.3 billion investment pipeline to move more projects towards investment decisions and implementation.

“We are also working to improve investment readiness across our economic zones. The Chinese Economic and Industrial Zone, which had been delayed for more than a decade, is now under development, with a 2028 target and approximately USD 500 million in prospective investment. Our published 180-day progress report sets out what we have achieved and where work remains. We will continue to report on progress as we work to turn investment interest into operating businesses and jobs.”
